Copd & Emphysema
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and Emphysema are common and serious lung diseases that make it difficult for a person to breathe. They are caused by smoking, long-term exposure to air pollutants, occupational dust and chemicals, and in some cases, a genetic predisposition. COPD is the fourth leading cause of death in the United States, and it is estimated that more than 24 million people in the United States suffer from COPD and Emphysema. Symptoms include frequent coughing, increased mucus production, wheezing, chest tightness, and shortness of breath. Treatment typically includes medications, pulmonary rehabilitation, and lifestyle changes in order to slow the progression and improve quality of life.
