Elastin
Elastin is a protein found in the extracellular matrix of many tissues. It is responsible for elasticity and resilience in those tissues, allowing them to stretch and return to their original shape. Elastin is found in the skin, blood vessels, lungs, and heart, where it helps to stretch, repair, and generate new cells. Elastin also plays a vital role in wound healing and inflammation. Elastin’s elastic properties make it an essential component of the body’s natural systems, helping to protect our important organs from damage and disease. Elastin’s ability to be remodeled and repaired also makes it a valuable resource in medical research and engineering, where scientists are looking for ways to use elastin's properties for artificial tissues and materials for use in prosthetics.
