Interstitial Lung Diseases
Interstitial Lung Diseases (ILDs) refer to a group of lung diseases caused by injury to the interstitium, a thin layer of tissue that surrounds the air sacs (alveoli) of the lungs. Symptoms of ILDs can include shortness of breath, a dry cough, chest pain, and fatigue. ILDs can be caused by environmental factors such as air pollution, exposure to hazardous substances, and infections, or may be a result of genetic conditions. In some cases, the cause is unknown. Treatment of ILDs usually focuses on managing symptoms and may include medications and lifestyle changes. ILDs can be life-threatening, and early diagnosis and treatment are important for improving patient outcomes.
