Pneumocystis

jiroveci Pneumocystis jiroveci is a type of fungus known to cause pneumonia in immunocompromised individuals. It is the most common cause of pneumonia in people with HIV/AIDS and can also occur in those taking medicines that weaken their immune systems. Diagnosis of Pneumocystis jiroveci is typically done through analyzing sputum or bronchoalveolar lavage samples, and treatment is available in the form of antifungal medications. Early recognition and treatment is important for the successful management of Pneumocystis jiroveci pneumonia. In addition, preventative measures such as avoiding contact with people with weakened immunity, proper hygiene, and taking medications as prescribed may help reduce the risk of infection.
