Prevotella
Prevotella is a genus of bacteria belonging to the family of Bacteroidaceae, often found in the human gastrointestinal tract. They are anaerobic, Gram-negative bacteria and are mostly associated with the production of important vitamins and energy sources from complex carbohydrates. Prevotella are also known to aid in the digestion of food and help maintain a healthy balance of microbial species in the gut. They can also play a role in regulating the immune system and suppressing inflammation. In addition, Prevotella species have been linked to a variety of diseases, including periodontal disease, cystic fibrosis, and colorectal cancer. As such, Prevotella is an important group of bacteria to understand and study in order to understand how they may impact human health.
