Animal-assisted Therapy
Animal-assisted therapy (AAT) is a therapeutic approach that involves the use of animals (usually dogs or horses) to help people with mental or physical disabilities, or those with emotional or psychological issues. During AAT sessions, the animal–patient interaction can help to reduce stress and improve physical, mental, and emotional well-being by providing comfort and companionship, as well as providing the opportunity for physical activity. AAT can be beneficial for people of all ages and many medical conditions, including anxiety and depression, autism, grief, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It is a safe, non-invasive treatment option and can be used alongside traditional therapies to provide an overall holistic approach to healing. AAT can offer a unique experience of connection and acceptance to those who are in need of emotional support.
