Bioenergetic Coupling in Schizophrenia

Bioenergetic Coupling in Schizophrenia is the study of the relationship between energy metabolism and the symptomatology and pathology of schizophrenia. It is a relatively new field of research that seeks to elucidate the role of mitochondrial dysfunction in schizophrenia. It is an important tool in understanding the etiology of schizophrenia and may lead to better therapeutic approaches to the disorder. Evidence suggests that some forms of schizophrenia may be the result of mitochondrial dysfunction, which may explain the wide range of symptomatology and pathology associated with the disorder. Understanding bioenergetic coupling in schizophrenia is essential for developing new strategies for diagnosis and therapy of schizophrenic disorders. Additionally, bioenergetic coupling may provide insight into other neurological disorders, such as Alzheimer's Disease, Parkinson's Disease, and depression.
