Catatonic Schizophrenia

Catatonic Schizophrenia is a severe form of schizophrenia, a mental disorder characterized by hallucinations, delusions and disorganized thought and behavior. It is characterized by either stupor (inactivity and lack of response to external stimuli) or hyperactivity (agitation and purposeless excessive movements). The symptoms of catatonic schizophrenia may lead to social isolation, difficulty functioning in daily activities, and potentially, hospitalization. Treatment options may include antipsychotic medications, psychotherapy, and electroconvulsive therapy. With proper treatment, symptoms of catatonic schizophrenia can be managed and the individual can often lead a healthy, productive life.
