Neurodevelopmental Disorders
Neurodevelopmental disorders are a group of conditions that originate during the development of the nervous system, due to genetic or environmental factors. They are characterized by impaired behavior, communication and social skills, cognitive deficits, motor control problems and decreased ability to cope with daily activities. Neurodevelopmental disorders typically first manifest during early childhood and can have lifelong effects on physical, cognitive and psychological functioning. Examples include autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, Tourette syndrome, Fragile X Syndrome, and Down syndrome. Treatment is typically multi-faceted, involving therapy, pharmacological intervention, lifestyle changes, and behavioral modification. Early diagnosis and intervention can help individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders lead full and meaningful lives.
