Parasympathetic Nervous System
The parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) is part of the nervous system that helps the body maintain homeostasis. It works in opposition to the sympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for the body's fight-or-flight response. This regulatory system is responsible for maintaining essential functions such as digestion, heart rate, respiration, metabolism and immune system activity. The PNS also plays an important role in controlling arousal levels, stress hormones, and overall emotional well-being. By maintaining balance and homeostasis within the body, the PNS helps keep the body in a state of good health and functioning.
