Post-traumatic Stress Disorder
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a type of anxiety disorder that can develop after someone experiences or witnesses a traumatic event. This can include a natural disaster, serious accident, act of violence, or any other traumatic event. It can also occur after a prolonged exposure to trauma such as military combat. Symptoms of PTSD can include flashbacks, nightmares, difficulty sleeping, difficulty concentrating, irritability, and outbursts of anger. PTSD can have a significant impact on daily life and functioning. Those who suffer from PTSD can benefit from a variety of therapies and treatments, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, psychotherapy, and medications. Treatment can help those with PTSD to recover and lead a healthier, more productive life.
