Streptococcus Pneumoniae

Streptococcus pneumoniae is a species of bacteria that is a major cause of respiratory infections in humans, including pneumonia, sinusitis, and bronchitis. It is one of the leading causes of death among children and the elderly, and can cause severe complications due to its resistance to antibiotics. Vaccines and antibiotics are used to prevent and treat these infections, respectively. Streptococcus pneumoniae is a highly contagious organism, and is spread through contact with an infected person or by breathing in dry droplets from an infected person's cough or sneeze. Identifying and treating this organism is essential to reducing the risk of serious complications and death.
