Ankles

The ankle is a complex joint that allows for up and down movement of the foot and facilitates walking. It consists of three separate bones: the shinbone (tibia), the smaller fibula, and the talus. The ankle joint is held together by a number of ligaments and tendons. It is also supported by a number of muscles and tendons, which are important in ensuring stability of the joint. The ankle plays an important role in maintaining balance and posture, and is necessary for a range of activities, including walking and running. Ankle injuries are common and can range from mild sprains to more severe fractures. Prompt medical attention is necessary to ensure prompt recovery and prevent any long-term damage. Proper protection of the ankle is essential to avoid the risk of injury, through the use of braces and supportive footwear.
