Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome
Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) is a group of inherited connective tissue disorders that cause skin, joint, and vascular abnormalities. EDS affects the structure of collagen and other proteins in the body. This can lead to joint instability and dislocation, skin fragility and easy bruising, and problems with blood vessels and internal organs. EDS can range from mild to life-threatening and require lifelong management with medical professionals. Early diagnosis and medical management are critical to improve quality of life. Pharmaceutical, genetic, and orthopedic modalities are available and recommended to manage EDS symptoms.
