Fasciotomy

A fasciotomy is a surgical procedure that involves cutting into a fibrous tissue known as fascia. It is mainly used as a treatment for conditions affecting the musculoskeletal system, such as compartment syndrome, contracture of soft tissue, carpal tunnel syndrome, and Dupuytren's contracture. The procedure involves incisions in the fascia allowing the adjacent soft tissue to expand, reducing pressure and enhancing blood flow to the affected area. This can help to restore range of motion, reduce pain, and improve quality of life for the patient. In more severe cases, the decompression provided by fasciotomy can help to prevent the development of more serious conditions such as nerve damage and tissue necrosis.
