Hypotonia
Hypotonia is a condition in which a person has an abnormally low muscle tone, or decreased resistance to passive movement of their joints. It is most commonly observed in children and is often associated with developmental delays or other medical conditions. Muscle tone can be assessed through physical exams and tests such as electromyography (EMG). Hypotonia can be caused by a range of factors including neurological damage, metabolic disorders, microdeletion syndromes, and other conditions. Treatment depends on the underlying cause and may involve physical therapy, medications, or dietary changes. Hypotonia is an important condition to be aware of, as it can have significant impacts on the physical development and quality of life of those affected.
