Lumbar Vertebrae
The lumbar vertebrae are the five large vertebrae of the lower back, located between the thoracic vertebrae and the sacrum. They provide structural support and flexibility to the spine, allowing humans to perform movements such as bending, rotating, and twisting. They also help protect the nerves, muscles, and organs of the lower back, limiting their risk of injury during daily activities. Health problems in the lumbar vertebrae can cause pain, discomfort, and limited mobility, and can be treated with physical therapy, medications, or surgery. Understanding the lumbar vertebrae is key to the prevention and treatment of lower back pain, and therefore is an important aspect of maintaining a healthy spine.
