Polymyalgia Rheumatica

Polymyalgia Rheumatica (PMR) is an inflammatory disorder that causes muscle pain and stiffness, primarily in the hips, shoulders, and neck. It is most commonly diagnosed in adults over the age of 50, but can affect younger adults as well. Symptoms of PMR include fatigue, fever, and weight loss. Treatment of PMR consists of steroid medications to reduce inflammation, as well as physical therapy and lifestyle modifications to reduce pain and improve mobility. PMR is an important condition to recognize and treat, as long-term complications could include joint damage and reduced mobility. Early diagnosis and treatment of PMR can result in a decrease in symptoms, improved mobility, and quality of life.
