Polymyositis

Polymyositis is a rare disorder that causes inflammation and muscle weakness. It is an autoimmune disorder that occurs when the body's own immune system mistakenly attacks and damages the cells of the muscles. Symptoms include muscle weakness, difficulty in swallowing, and difficulty in lifting objects. This condition can affect any part of the body, but is most commonly found in the muscles of the neck, shoulders, upper arms, and pelvic area. Treatment usually involves medications to suppress the immune system and physical therapy to help with muscle strength and function. Polymyositis is a serious condition and can cause significant disability if not treated properly. However, with proper treatment, it can be managed and improves quality of life.
