Soleus Muscles
The soleus muscle is a deep calf muscle situated behind the gastrocnemius, the larger, more superficial calf muscle. It originates from the back of the lower leg and extends across the sole of the foot, making it important for stabilizing the ankle and aiding in movements such as walking, running, and jumping. Soleus muscles also help to control the circulation of blood and lymphatic fluid, making them a key player in promoting healthy circulation in the lower body. In particular, strengthening the soleus muscles is beneficial for the prevention and management of various lower extremity conditions, such as ankle sprains, shin splints, and chronic fatigue.
