Sternum

The sternum, also known as the breastbone, is a long, flat, and T-shaped bone located in the chest cavity between the rib cage and the neck. It forms the front of the rib cage and provides a protective, structural support for the rest of the body. The sternum is an important landmark for identifying anatomical structures in the thorax, and its presence is important for skeletal structure and movement. It is also used in medical procedures such as cardiac, lung, and thoracic surgeries, so its proper function is essential for the health and well-being of the individual. Additionally, rib fractures and sternal fractures can be caused by accidents or injuries and must be treated accordingly.
