Stiffness
Stiffness is a term used to describe how resistant a material or material object is to deformation. When a material or object is stiff, it is difficult to bend, twist, or deform it. Stiffness is important for many different materials and objects in the fields of engineering, construction, and biomechanics. It is used to understand the behavior of materials and objects when they are exposed to forces and impacts, and to determine the best material and design to achieve the desired result. In the construction field, stiffness is used to design bridges and buildings that are able to resist large forces such as earthquakes and winds. In the biomechanics field, stiffness is used to measure and understand the mechanical properties of bones, muscles, and tendons, and to create more efficient and effective prosthetics and medical devices.
