Subcutaneous Tissue
Subcutaneous tissue, also known as hypodermis or subcutis, is a layer of fat and connective tissue beneath the skin. It helps cushion and protect the body from external factors and prevents dehydration by conserving body heat. Additionally, subcutaneous tissue serves as a pathway for nerve impulses, blood vessels and lymphatic vessels. Subcutaneous tissue is an important component in wound healing and plays a vital role in maintaining healthy skin. In addition, it serves as a site for subcutaneous injections, such as for insulin doses or other medications. This tissue is important for the health and well-being of the body, protecting from the external environment and aiding in regulating body temperature.
