Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome
(SIRS) Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (SIRS) is a medical condition that results from an exaggerated immune response in the body. It is usually caused by infection, trauma, or other physical insult, such as severe burns. SIRS can cause a wide range of symptoms, including fever, rapid heart rate, and an increase in white blood cells. This can lead to organ failure and death in severe cases. Prompt diagnosis and aggressive treatment are essential for a successful outcome, and early recognition of SIRS can save lives. Treatments include intravenous fluids, antibiotics, and medications to reduce the body's inflammatory response. In addition, supportive measures such as oxygen, nutritional support, and pain relief are often needed.
