Esophagus
The esophagus is a muscular tube that connects the mouth to the stomach. It is composed of a layer of muscle and tissue, surrounded by a wall of connective tissues. The primary role of the esophagus is to move food from the mouth to the stomach for digestion. When food is swallowed, the walls of the esophagus contract in waves, pushing the food down to the stomach. Disorders of the esophagus can cause difficulty in swallowing and may lead to severe health issues. Early diagnosis and treatment of esophageal disorders are essential for preventing long term complications and restoring healthy functioning of this important organ.
