Insulin Resistance
Insulin resistance is a condition in which the body does not respond normally to the hormone insulin. It is when the body doesn't make full use of the insulin it produces, resulting in a higher than normal level of glucose in the blood. Insulin resistance can lead to type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome, and other health problems. Its increased recognition has created the need to look for ways to detect and manage it. For those already diagnosed, lifestyle changes and medications can help to decrease insulin resistance, reducing the probability of developing serious complications associated with it.
