Insulin Signaling
Insulin signaling is a complex process that enables cells in the body to use glucose for energy. It is essential for maintaining blood glucose levels in a healthy range, as well as playing a role in other functions such as growth and metabolism. The process begins when insulin, a hormone produced by the pancreas, binds to receptors on the cell surface. This triggers the activation of various enzymes and proteins within the cell, which regulate the uptake and utilization of glucose. In turn, this affects other metabolic pathways and energy production. Insulin signaling is therefore critical for proper functioning of the body and any disruption of this process can lead to severe disruptions of metabolism and consequently, health problems such as diabetes.
