Lipid Metabolism
Lipid metabolism is the biochemical process by which lipids are broken down, converted into energy, and used by cells inside the body. Lipids are a group of molecules, including fats, oils, waxes, and sterols, that are essential for health. They serve as energy storage, insulation, and protective barriers, as well as providing structure for cells. To use lipids efficiently, the body must break down large molecules into smaller ones and convert them into usable energy. This process is known as lipid metabolism. Lipid metabolism is important for the body to maintain optimal health and functioning. It helps keep the heart, brain, and other organs functioning properly, as well as helping maintain normal body weight. By breaking down and using lipids, metabolism also helps prevent the formation of fatty deposits in the body that can lead to diseases such as heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes.
