Liver Cirrhosis
Liver cirrhosis is a serious condition caused by long-term liver damage. As a result, the liver is unable to effectively perform its vital functions, such as filtering toxins from the blood. Symptoms of cirrhosis can include fatigue, jaundice, abdominal pain, and itching. Complications from this progressive disorder can include bleeding from swollen veins, fluid accumulation in the abdominal cavity, and increased risk of liver cancer. Treatment usually involves lifestyle changes, avoiding alcohol, medications, and in severe cases, liver transplantation. Early detection and treatment are important to improve the quality of life for those affected by this debilitating condition.
