Liver Diseases
Liver diseases are conditions that can lead to dysfunction or failure of the liver. This is an incredibly serious issue as the liver is essential for a range of bodily functions, such as: processing food into energy, digestion, storage and releasing of nutrients, and the removal of toxins from the bloodstream. Liver diseases can be genetic, the result of lifestyle choices (e.g. alcohol abuse), or caused by infection or inflammation. Symptoms include jaundice, fatigue, weight loss and abdominal pain. Liver diseases can be treated in some cases, with measures such as lifestyle changes, surgery and medication, depending on the state of the individual and type of disease. Early detection is key to successful treatment outcomes.
