Management
of Diabetes Diabetes is a chronic condition characterized by the body’s inability to properly regulate the levels of sugar (glucose) in the bloodstream. It is caused by lack of insulin production, resistance to the effects of insulin or both. Management of diabetes involves lifestyle modifications such as healthy diet, regular exercise, and medications to help control glucose levels and prevent complications. Proper management of diabetes is essential to prevent potentially serious and life-threatening consequences such as stroke, blindness, kidney and cardiovascular diseases. Additionally, diabetes management is important for lowering the risk of things such as foot ulcers, amputation, and dental disease. Well-managed diabetes can drastically improve patient’s quality of life, by reducing the symptoms and preventing long-term complications.
