Primary Biliary Cirrhosis
Primary Biliary Cirrhosis (PBC) is an autoimmune disease that affects the liver. It is caused by the progressive destruction of bile ducts within the liver, which leads to liver scarring, also known as cirrhosis. PBC is a serious condition that can cause a number of complications, including jaundice, fatigue, itchy skin, and inflammation of the gallbladder. The most common symptom is extreme fatigue. If left untreated, PBC can lead to liver failure and even death. Treatment typically involves the use of medications that slow the progression of the disease and manage its symptoms. In some cases, a liver transplant may be necessary to treat the condition. Early diagnosis and treatment are important in order to prevent serious health complications.
