Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer
Anaplastic thyroid cancer is an aggressive and advanced form of thyroid cancer which is very difficult to treat. It is a rare type of cancer which develops in the cells of the thyroid gland, a small organ located at the base of the neck. It is characterized by quick growth and spread of abnormal cells that can penetrate or invade nearby organs and tissues. Unfortunately, due to its aggressive nature and rapid growth, anaplastic thyroid cancer often has poor outcomes with a median survival rate of only a few months. In order to improve outcomes, early detection and prompt treatment are key. Treatment options for anaplastic thyroid cancer may include surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and/or clinical trials.
