Chromoblastomycosis
Chromoblastomycosis is a subcutaneous fungal infection caused by filamentous fungi from the division of Deuteromycota that predominantly affects the exposed skin and subcutaneous tissue of the extremities, torso and face of individuals in tropical regions. The disease is non-invasive and is characterized by slow-growing, non-healing skin lesions with a hardened edges, local inflammatory reactions and pigmentation due to the presence of sclerotic cells. Chromoblastomycosis can be treated with antifungal drugs, and in some cases, surgical debridement may be required.
