These vitamins are vital for many bodily functions, such as cell metabolism, nerve function and the formation of red blood cells. Cobalamins are particularly important for pregnant women, as a deficiency can lead to birth defects, and for those suffering from anemia, as they are essential for the production of healthy red blood cells. Cobalamins can be found in a variety of foods, such as liver, dairy products, eggs, shellfish and fortified cereals. In addition, cobalamins can be taken in supplemental form to ensure adequate intake.
