Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome
Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) is a group of inherited connective tissue disorders characterized by defective collagen production by the body. This results in an increased fragility of the skin, hyper-elasticity of the joints, and other physical abnormalities. In some cases, EDS can also affect the cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal and nervous systems. EDS has a significant impact on quality of life, as it can cause pain, fatigue, and other physical limitations. Treatment of EDS usually involves lifestyle modifications to improve and ease symptoms. Additionally, physical therapies, medications, and assistive devices may be prescribed to reduce pain and improve overall functioning. With early diagnosis and proper management, people with EDS can lead relatively normal lives.
