Myiasis
Myiasis is an infestation of a living organism, such as the skin and associated tissues of a mammal, bird, reptile, amphibian or fish, by fly larvae. It is a zoonotic disease that can cause significant morbidity and mortality in both humans and livestock. The larvae feed on the host organism and can cause irritation, pain, and tissue damage in the affected area. Treatment of myiasis typically involves removal of the larvae, as well as antibiotic treatment and wound care. Myiasis can be prevented through proper hygiene, sanitation, and use of insect repellents. It is important to be aware of the signs and symptoms of myiasis so that the condition can be treated as soon as possible.
