Pleural Effusion
Pleural effusion is an abnormal accumulation of fluid in the pleural space between the lungs and chest wall. It is a common clinical finding and can be caused by a variety of physiological and pathological conditions. It can be associated with chest pain, reduced lung capacity, and difficulty breathing. Treatment of pleural effusion is directed towards the underlying cause, although various therapies such as pleural drainage, antibiotics and steroids are sometimes used. Understanding the root cause of pleural effusion is important for its successful management.
