Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne tropical disease caused by the dengue virus. It is common in tropical and subtropical regions of the world. Symptoms of dengue fever include fever, headache, muscle and joint pain, nausea and vomiting. In some severe cases, it can cause severe and life-threatening complications. Dengue fever is an important public health concern as it can have significant morbidity and mortality. Prevention is the mainstay of controlling dengue fever, and includes measures such as environmental management, vector control, and personal protection against mosquito bites. Vaccines are currently under development, and may play an important role in future dengue fever prevention efforts.
