Disease Prevention
Disease prevention is the act of taking proactive measures to reduce the risk of illness and minimize suffering from diseases. Prevention includes both primary (stopping the disease from occurring) and secondary (minimizing harmful effects after the disease has occurred) strategies. Disease prevention is a fundamental component of public health and is important for individuals, families, and stakeholders in the healthcare system. Disease prevention can include lifestyle modifications, use of medications and vaccines, and screening tests. Prevention strategies have been shown to reduce healthcare costs, improve quality of life, and decrease mortality, morbidity, and disability.
