Assisted Reproduction Technology
Assisted Reproduction Technology (ART) is a field of reproductive medicine that involves the use of sophisticated medical techniques to help individuals and couples who struggle with infertility to conceive a child. These techniques involve the manipulation of sperm, eggs, and embryos in a laboratory setting. ART can also be used for gender selection and to screen embryos for genetic abnormalities and other conditions. Its significance lies in providing an opportunity and hopefulness for couples who have been unable to conceive naturally to have a family. Its uses come in the form of fertility treatments such as in vitro fertilization (IVF), intrauterine insemination (IUI), and cryopreservation to preserve eggs and sperm. ART is also useful for couples facing infertility due to medical conditions or as a result of treatments such as chemotherapy.
