Ascariasis

Ascariasis is a parasitic disease caused by the roundworm Ascaris lumbricoides, which is the most common type of intestinal parasite infection in humans. The infection is spread primarily through contact with contaminated soil and results in a variety of gastrointestinal symptoms such as abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. In severe cases, ascariasis can also cause malnutrition and other health problems. Treatment typically involves medication and good hygiene practices, including washing hands after contact with soil, wearing gloves while gardening, and avoiding contact with soil from potentially contaminated sources. Prevention of this disease is important, as it can cause significant suffering and, in extreme cases, even death.
