Introduced Species
Introduced species, also known as non-indigenous or alien species, are species that have been moved outside of their natural habitats, typically by human activities. They can include plants, animals and microorganisms, and can have significant impacts on local ecosystems. Introduced species can out-compete native species for resources, transform habitats, or spread diseases and parasites. They can also lead to economic losses, reduce biodiversity, and have a negative impact on local cultures, making them globally one of the greatest threats to native species and ecosystems. Effective management of introduced species is an important part of conservation and restoration efforts.
