Platypus

The Platypus is a semiaquatic mammal native to eastern Australia and Tasmania. It is a monotreme, meaning it is one of only three existing mammalian species that lay eggs rather than bear live young. The Platypus is a unique animal due to its features which include a duck-like bill, a beaverlike tail, webbed feet and a body that is covered in dense fur. Its species plays an important role in the ecosystem of its native habitat by providing a source of food for many predators and helping to maintain the balance of aquatic environments. The Platypus is also of great scientific importance as it can be used to study the evolution of species, adaptation to environmental changes and the study of genetics.
