Porifera
Porifera is a phylum of aquatic animals, also known as sponges, which are extremely important for the health of the ocean. Poriferans are filter feeders, meaning they consume tiny particles from the water, such as bacteria and algae. These particles are then digested and used by the sponges for energy and nutrition. The presence of sponges in the ocean is crucial for the health of the ecosystem, as they help to maintain a balance of nutrients and cleanse the water of waste materials. Additionally, sponges are an important source of food and habitat for many other marine animals. Porifera also have numerous uses in medical and other industries, ranging from biomedical research to cosmetics.
