Predator-prey Dynamics
Predator-prey dynamics is a fundamental concept in the natural world that explains the balance between predators, which feed on other organisms (prey), and the prey themselves. This relationship is important for maintaining biological diversity and healthy ecosystems. It works by predator numbers being dependent on the abundance of prey, and in turn, prey numbers are dependent on the number of predators. Through this cycle, ecosystems remain in balance as there is competition between predators and prey. Predation also influences the evolution of certain species, as those which can adapt to different pressures will be more likely to survive. These dynamics have important implications for conservation, as a disruption to either the predators or the prey can have a dramatic effect on the whole ecosystem.
