Raven (Corvus Corax)

The Raven (Corvus corax) is a large, all-black bird belonging to the family Corvidae. It is the most widely distributed corvid species, found in parts of Europe, North America, and Asia, with some birds making their home in Arctic tundra and mountain forests. Ravens are highly intelligent animals, capable of problem solving and tool use. They are often used in studies of avian intelligence, and their social behavior is complex, with long-term bonds between mates and intricate courtship rituals. Ravens are also renowned for their vocalizations, with some calls having over 20 different variations. Ravens are important in many cultures, often associated with wisdom and prophecy, and their presence is often used as a symbol of power or as a totem animal. They are important scavengers in many ecosystems, helping to recycle nutrients, and they can also provide a valuable control on some species of pest animals.
