Wildfires

Wildfires are uncontrolled outbreaks of fire that can burn in grasslands, forests, brush, and other wildland areas. Their high temperatures, strong winds, and rapidly spreading flames can cause significant damage to people, animals, habitats, and landscapes. Wildfires are a natural way for fuel and vegetation to be returned to the soil, but they can also be a major threat to animals, people, and property. Through improved fire management, humans can use wildfires to their advantage, such as burning to reduce fuel loads, decrease the risk of future large, uncontrolled fires, and create wildlife habitats.
