Yersinia Pseudotuberculosis
Yersinia pseudotuberculosis is a Gram-negative bacterium in the family Enterobacteriaceae. It is a common cause of gastrointestinal disease in humans, and is also known to cause systemic, or whole body, infections. It is found in soil, water, and food sources, and is also associated with animal carcasses. Yersinia pseudotuberculosis is a significant public health risk due to its ability to cause serious and sometimes fatal infections. It is a major cause of pneumonia, septicemia, and sepsis in humans. Treatment of infections caused by Yersinia pseudotuberculosis requires antibiotics to which the bacterium is sensitive, and in some cases, surgical intervention may be necessary.
