Algae
Algae are aquatic organisms, ranging from simple single-celled forms to complex multicellular forms. They are found in both fresh and marine water, and are also seen in moist soil and on surfaces such as rocks and trees. They contain chlorophyll and are photosynthetic, meaning they use the energy of sunlight to create their own food. Algae play an important role in the global carbon cycle, and the oxygen they release helps support life on Earth. Algae have a variety of commercial uses, including in the production of food, animal feed, and fuel. Algae are also used in wastewater treatment and in the development of biodegradable plastics and cosmetics.
